Rioting broke out underneath the Eiffel Tower tonight as France’s Euro 2016 final dream turned into a nightmare.
What was meant to be a celebration of football saw gangs of youths fighting running battles with squads of heavily armed police.
Huge clouds of tear gas were also pictured hanging over the world famous tower.
Trouble broke out within minutes of the start of host nation France’s final game against Portugal.
The French authorities had set aside some 80,000 places in a supposedly secure fanzone next to the Eiffel Tower, but as numbers increased, tear gas was used.
